Lecture title: Hypothalamic regulation of food intake and obesity: Use of electrophysiology and optogenetic methods with transgenic  mice models

Prof. Dr. Bayram Yılmaz is a Professor of Medical Physiology at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Turkey. He has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Firat University (Turkey) and PhD in Medical Physiology from University of Glasgow (Scotland). He worked as a Research Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at Albany, and Visiting Scientist at the King’s College London and at the University of Oxford. He is an author of seven book chapters and 130 refereed articles (h-index 24, over 1650 citations, Scopus). His research interest include neuro-endocrine regulation of energy homeostasis and reproductive hormones in experimental models. He also works on presence of endocrine disrupting chemicals in human (breast milk) and environmental samples using in vitro and in vivo test models.

 

Professor Bayram Yilmaz has been serving as Secretary General at Federation of European Physiological Societies (FEPS) since 2014. He is the president of Turkish Neuroscience Society. He lectures to both medical students and post-graduate students on medical physiology and research methodology in Neuroscience and Neuroendocrinology. His administrative responsibilities include Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Graduate School of Health Sciences at Yeditepe University since 2014.

Lecturers: Dr. Ninna Kozorog, Maribor University

Lecture title: Ethical dilemmas of brain tumor treatment in elderly patients, 20 May 2021 , 17.00 – 18.30 PM (UTC+2, CEST)

 

Dr. Ninna Kozorog is a neurologist, neurophysiologist and computer and electrical engineer. Ninna Kozorog studied medicine at the Medical University in Maribor. She also completed her parallel studies in electrical engineering and computer science at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics. She graduated with a low-cost implementation of neural networks into everyday life, and is currently completing a master’s degree in bioinformatics. She is employed at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Medical Center Maribor, where she deals with intraoperative neuromonitoring and palliative care of neurosurgical patients. In the field of intraoperative neuromonitoring, she is mainly interested in testing the non-dominant hemisphere and brainstem reflexes. In her private life, she is one of the most prominent activists and humanitarian workers in Slovenia, dealing with the elderly, ensuring a dignified old age, ensuring systemic rights and practical humanitarian aid. From 2010 to 2017 she was the head of the pro bono clinic for people without basic health insurance and one of the three founders of the Slovenian network of pro bono clinics, the head of the Slovenian network of homeless organizations and the only Slovenian doctor with a street doctor certificate. Last year she was chosen for Slovenian Woman of the year.
